  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for icing)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream together butter and brown sugar with a mixer until smooth. Add egg and beat until combined. Mix in maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Stir in chopped pecans until combined.
  4. Cover dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (up to 3 days).
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place on prepared sheets. Bake for 12-13 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  7. Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  8. For icing, melt butter and maple syrup in a saucepan over low heat; whisk in confectioners' sugar until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
