  • 1 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup flour (for coating)
  • 1 cup plant-based milk (for dipping)
  • Oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) for baking.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a bowl, combine nutritional yeast, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Set up a breading station with flour, plant-based milk, and the breadcrumb mixture in separate bowls.
  5. Dip each tofu cube into flour, then plant-based milk, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. For frying: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the bites in batches until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes per side). For baking: Arrange the coated tofu on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through.
  7. Remove from heat; drain on paper towels if fried.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
