  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 4 slices crispy turkey bacon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion and red bell pepper until tender, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Incorporate the ground turkey and cook until browned, approximately 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and paprika. Mix well.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  7. Serve the turkey mixture on the buns and top with cheese and crispy turkey bacon if using.
  8. Close the buns and serve hot.
